Parish Histories:

Taunton Community Site

The aim of this site is to provide a community for the people that live in the Taunton area and a reference for others that wish to visit this beautiful town.

Taunton has been a place of residence since King Ine founded a small settlement on the river Tone nearly two thousand years ago, maybe earlier. And is one of the only towns in the country to have held a market for nearly a thousand years. Unfortunately that market is about to leave the town. You could discuss this and other issues on this site.

One intention of this site is to attempt to compile a history of the town. Anyone with any historical knowledge of Taunton is welcome to join and help compile this reference.

The OPC database contains no wills of people who lived in this parish.

Please contact the OPC co-ordinator if you have information or links you would like to contribute.

Remember that OPCs are volunteers and are unlikely to have information not listed on this page.

Please be courteous and patient - they, like you, have busy lives and will try and respond as quickly as they can.
